Welcome!Stranraer Folk Club meets every Wednesday at the Swan Inn on Sheuchan Street. If you're new to the area, it's sort of opposite the end of Agnew Park. You'll be able to find it, Stranraer's not that big. Singers, musicians and audience are always very welcome. Most weeks we have a fairly even mix of songs and tunes, in a wide variety of styles. Admission isfree, but you might like to buy the fiddler a pint. And you'll probably get bullied into buying a raffle ticket at half-time. So whether you live locally, are visiting the area on holiday, or just got stuck in Stranraer waiting for a ferry on a Wednesday night, why not drop in and joinus? Or phone Gerda on 01776 870270.
Other StuffTune Learning Sessions. We run a fortnightly tune learning session upstairs in The Grapes on Bridge Street on the first and third Monday of the month(and the fifth if there is one) from 7.00 - 9.00. These sessions allow us to learn tunes together, without the pressure of performing in public. There are recordings of some of the tunes we areworking on at the moment HERE. If you are interested in joining us, either just turn up (ask the bar staff how to get upstairs), or phone Mark on 01776 830242
Guest NightsAt the moment we have one guest night booked: Tom McConville with David Newey on 23 November 2011. Tom Mc Conville:"One of the greatest violinists I've ever heard and by far the biggest influence in my music - A true master" - Seth Lakeman "Tom is a great player, and a terrific singer, he happens to be a number one bloketoo. Tom plays as Tom is, with honesty and passion, and an obvious love for the fiddle and traditional music." - Dave Swarbrick David Newey: 'Unsettling, apocalyptic lyrics, and tunes with great hooks - I keep thinking of Becker and Fagen at Steely Dan's best.
